The Government of India has announced that President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated Saushrutam 2026 on 15 July 2026 at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, on the occasion of Sushruta Jayanti.
The three-day international seminar (15–17 July 2026) focuses on integrating Ayurveda with modern surgical sciences and brings together surgeons, researchers, academicians, and policymakers from India and several other countries. Scientific sessions cover topics such as:
Classical surgical principles of Acharya Sushruta
Kshara Sutra, Agnikarma, Marma Chikitsa, and wound management
Reconstructive surgery and integrative oncology
Medico-legal issues and intellectual property in surgery
Evidence-based Ayurvedic surgical research
During the event:
An NCISM study titled "Evaluation of Professional Career of Ayurveda Female Graduates – An Observational Exploratory Study" was released.
A 3-Tesla AI-enabled MRI facility, installed at AIIA at a cost of about ₹14.5 crore, was inaugurated to strengthen advanced diagnostics and research.
In her address, President Murmu described Acharya Sushruta as the "Father of Surgery" and emphasized that the future of Ayurveda depends on scientific research, high-quality evidence, ethical medical practice, and the appropriate use of modern technologies. She expressed confidence that Saushrutam 2026 would strengthen international cooperation and enhance Ayurveda's contribution to holistic healthcare.
