The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (India) conducted a 3-day sensitization programme in New Delhi on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the upcoming DPDP Rules, 2025. The training included participation from IITs, IIMs, Central Universities, NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded higher education institutions.

Data protection principles and privacy governance
Regulatory compliance under the DPDP framework
Institutional preparedness for implementation
Cybersecurity and responsible data handling in digital systems
The sessions were led by cyber law expert Dr. Anil Sain. The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of the Ministry of Education urged institutions to build robust data protection and governance frameworks aligned with the DPDP Act and Rules, ahead of the full implementation timeline (noted as 13 May 2027).
Overall, the initiative reflects a broader push by the Government of India to strengthen digital privacy, cybersecurity readiness, and responsible data management across the higher education ecosystem.
