Eleven years ago, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) with the vision of ensuring financial inclusion for every household of Bharat. Rooted in the Directive Principles of State Policy and aligned with the constitutional promise of justice—social, economic, and political as enshrined in the Preamble, PMJDY is not just a scheme, but a democratic transformation.
What began as a mission to open bank accounts has now blossomed into a movement of financial dignity and empowerment. By providing banking, credit, insurance, and pension at the doorsteps of citizens, PMJDY fulfilled the constitutional mandate of equality of opportunity and access.
📊 Today, PMJDY has crossed 56 crore accounts, out of which:
More than 56% are held by women, reinforcing Article 15 and 16 of the Constitution which guarantee equality and empower women to participate fully in national progress.
Two-thirds of accounts are in rural and semi-urban areas, bringing the spirit of Article 38 to life—reducing inequalities and connecting every village to the economic mainstream.
Through direct benefit transfers, PMJDY eliminated fake beneficiaries and middlemen, upholding transparency and good governance in tune with the principle of accountability to We, the People.
PMJDY is more than financial inclusion—it is a step towards Praja Mano Rajyam, a democracy of minds where citizens are empowered, secure, and self-reliant. It bridges the gap between constitutional ideals and everyday lives, ensuring that empowerment is not just a promise but a lived reality.
🌍 In the larger global constitutional perspective, PMJDY stands as a model for inclusive governance—echoing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals of eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and ensuring financial access for all.
As we celebrate 11 years of PMJDY, let us honor it not merely as a scheme, but as a document of bonding between citizens and the permanent government of the people, by the people, and for the people—now evolving as the Government of Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan, securing every mind and household with dignity.
✨ Let this celebration be of trust, empowerment, and constitutional continuity—where inclusion is not temporary welfare, but eternal dignity.
