Significance of June 21st

June 21st is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, which holds special significance in yoga traditions. It marks a transition where Adiyogi (Lord Shiva), the first yogi, is believed to have begun imparting yoga knowledge to his disciples, known as the Saptarishis (seven sages).

Theme and Celebrations

Each year, a different theme is chosen to highlight yoga’s benefits. The celebrations include:

Mass yoga sessions organized globally.

Workshops, seminars, and demonstrations on yoga and wellness.

Government and NGO-led initiatives to spread awareness.

Global Impact

Since its inception, the International Day of Yoga has seen participation from over 190 countries, promoting yoga as a holistic approach to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
