The UK and India are boosting their development partnership with a focus on climate change and technology.
UK International Development Minister Andrew Mitchell announced the new investments in Varanasi, India, on the sidelines of the G20 Development Ministerial meeting.
The UK is investing £10 million in the Avaana Fund, a women-led climate-tech fund that supports innovative businesses to develop solutions to climate change and create jobs for women in sectors such as clean energy, energy storage and agriculture.
The UK is also investing £12 million from the UK government-supported Neev II fund in Nutrifresh, an Agri-Tech start-up enterprise focused on making agriculture more sustainable by growing vegetables in an environmentally friendly way.
Minister Mitchell said: "The UK and India are natural partners in tackling the climate crisis and building a more sustainable future. These new investments will help to create jobs, boost innovation and protect the environment."
The UK and India are also working together on a range of other development issues, including:
* **Improving healthcare:** The UK is supporting the development of new hospitals and clinics in India, and is also working to improve the quality of healthcare, particularly for women and children.
* **Education:** The UK is supporting the development of new schools and colleges in India, and is also working to improve the quality of education, particularly for girls and disadvantaged groups.
* **Water and sanitation:** The UK is supporting the development of new water and sanitation schemes in India, and is also working to improve the quality of water and sanitation, particularly for people living in slums and rural areas.
* **Climate change:** The UK is working with India to develop a low-carbon economy, and is also supporting India's efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The UK and India's development partnership is a vital part of their overall relationship. The two countries share a common commitment to development and to building a more sustainable future. The new investments announced by Minister Mitchell will help to strengthen this partnership and make a real difference to the lives of people in India.
