धृतराष्ट्र उवाच। धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः। मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत संजय।।1.1।।

Dhritarashtra said: O Sanjaya, what did my sons and the sons of Pandu do when they assembled together on the holy field of Kurukshetra, eager to fight?

Explanation: The first sloka introduces the speaker of the chapter, Dhritarashtra, who is blind and eager to know what his sons and the sons of Pandu are doing on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.सञ्जय उवाच। दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा। आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा वचनमब्रवीत्।।1.2।।

Sanjaya said: When Duryodhana saw the Pandava army arranged in battle array, he approached his teacher Dronacharya and spoke the following words.

Explanation: Sanjaya, who has been granted divine sight, narrates how Duryodhana approaches his teacher Dronacharya to express his concern about the powerful Pandava army.पश्यैतां पाण्डुपुत्राणामाचार्य महतीं चमूम्। व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव शिष्येण धीमता।।1.3।।

O teacher, behold the great army of the sons of Pandu, so expertly arranged by your intelligent disciple, the son of Drupada.

Explanation: Duryodhana asks Dronacharya to look at the powerful and well-organized army of the Pandavas, led by their intelligent disciple, the son of Drupada, and expresses his concern about their ability to defeat it.अत्र शूरा महेष्वासा भीमार्जुनसमा युधि। युयुधानो विराटश्च द्रुपदश्च महारथः।।1.4।।

Here in this army are many heroic bowmen equal in fighting to Bhima and Arjuna: great fighters like Yuyudhana, Virata, and Drupada.

Sloka 1.5:

अत्र शूरा महेष्वासा भीमार्जुनसमा युधि। युयुधानो विराटश्च द्रुपदश्च महारथ:॥

English Translation: Here are heroes, mighty archers equal in combat to Bhima and Arjuna; Yuyudhana, Virata, and Drupada, who is always victorious in battle.

Interpretation: In this sloka, the narrator describes the warriors present on both sides of the battlefield. These warriors are not ordinary soldiers but are mighty heroes and skilled archers, equal in strength to Bhima and Arjuna.

Sloka 1.6:

धृष्टकेतुश्चेकितान: काशिराजश्च वीर्यवान्। पुरुजित्कुन्तिभोजश्च शैयश्च नरपुङ्गव:॥

English Translation: Dhristaketu, Chekitana, and the valiant king of Kashi, Purujit, Kuntibhoja, and Saibya, the best among men.

Interpretation: This sloka continues the description of the warriors on the battlefield. The narrator lists more names of powerful kings and brave soldiers who are ready to fight.

Sloka 1.7:

युधामन्युश्च विक्रान्त उत्तमौजाश्च वीर्यवान्। सौभद्रो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्व एव महारथा:॥

English Translation: Yudhamanyu, the valiant Uttamaujas, the son of Subhadra, and the sons of Draupadi—all great warriors.

Interpretation: This sloka further adds to the list of mighty warriors present on the battlefield. The narrator mentions the bravery and strength of Yudhamanyu, Uttamaujas, and the sons of Draupadi.

Sloka 1.8:

अस्माकं तु विशिष्टा ये तान्निबोध द्विजोत्तम। नायका मम सैन्यस्य संज्ञार्थं तान्ब्रवीमि ते॥

English Translation: But for your information, O best of the brahmanas, let me tell you about the captains who are especially qualified to lead my military force.

Interpretation: In this sloka, the narrator addresses Dronacharya and begins to specifically list the leaders of his army who are most qualified to lead.


Sloka 1.9: अर्जुन उवाच दृष्ट्वेमं स्वजनं कृष्ण युयुत्सुं समुपस्थितम्। सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि मुखं च परिशुष्यति॥

Arjuna Uvaacha: DrishTvaemaM Svajanam Krishna yuyutsuM samupasthitam; sIddhanTi mama gaatraaNi mukhaM cha parishushyati.

Arjuna said: O Krishna, seeing my own kinsmen arrayed here eager for battle, my limbs fail and my mouth is parched.

Interpretation: Arjuna, overcome by emotions, is expressing his hesitation to fight against his own kinsmen. His body is trembling, and his mouth is drying up, signifying his inner turmoil.

Sloka 1.10: वेपथुश्च शरीरे मे रोमहर्षश्च जायते। गाण्डीवं स्रंसते हस्तात्त्वक्चैव परिदह्यते॥

Vepathushcha shareere me romaharshashcha jaayate; gaaNDeevaM sraMstate hastaattvakchaiva paridahyate.

Trembling seizes my body; my skin bristles, and my bow slips from my hand. My mind seems to be whirling.

Interpretation: Arjuna is describing his physical reactions to the situation. His body trembles, and he experiences goosebumps. His grip on the bow weakens, and his mind is in a state of confusion.

Sloka 1.11: न च शक्नोम्यवस्थातुं भ्रमतीव च मे मनः। निमित्तानि च पश्यामि विपरीतानि केशव।।

Na cha shaknomya vasthaatum bhramateeva cha me manah; nimittaani cha pashyaami vipareetaani keshava.

I am unable to stand here any longer. My mind is in turmoil, and I see only omens of misfortune, O Krishna.

Interpretation: Arjuna is expressing his inability to continue in the current situation. He is unable to control his mind, and his thoughts are filled with negative omens, indicating his fear of the impending battle.

Sloka 1.12: न काङ्क्षे विजयं कृष्ण न च राज्यं सुखानि च। किं नो राज्येन गोविंद किं भोगैर्जीवितेन वा


अर्जुन उवाच अथ केन प्रयुक्तोऽयं पापं चरति पूरुषः। अनिच्छन्नपि वार्ष्णेय बलादिव नियोजितः॥ १२॥

Arjuna uvāca atha kena prayukto 'yaṁ pāpaṁ carati pūruṣaḥ anichchhannapi vārṣhṇeya balādiva niyojitah

Arjuna said: O Varshneya, by what is a man impelled to commit sin, even unwillingly, as if by force, O descendant of Vrishni? (1.12)

Interpretation: Arjuna seeks an explanation from Lord Krishna as to why a man is impelled to commit sins even if he doesn't want to, as if he is forced to do so. This is an important question as it reflects the struggle of the human mind to understand the nature of sin and its consequences.

श्री भगवानुवाच काम एष क्रोध एष रजोगुणसमुद्भवः। महाशनो महापाप्मा विद्ध्येनमिह वैरिणम्॥ १३॥

śhrī bhagavān uvācha kāma eṣha krodha eṣha rajo-guṇa-samudbhavaḥ mahāśhano mahāpāpmā viddhyenam iha vairiṇam

The Supreme Lord said: It is desire, it is anger, born of the mode of passion, all-devouring and most sinful; know this to be the enemy here. (1.13)

Interpretation: Lord Krishna responds to Arjuna by explaining that desire and anger, which arise from the mode of passion, are the root causes of sin. These negative emotions are all-consuming and lead to destructive actions. Lord Krishna emphasizes the importance of recognizing these emotions as the enemy within, which needs to be overcome in order to attain spiritual growth and liberation.

धूमेनाव्रियते वह्निर्यथादर्शो मलेन च। यथोल्बेनावृतो गर्भस्तथा तेनेदमावृतम्॥ १४॥

dhūmenāvriyate vahnir yathādarśho malena cha yatholbenāvṛito garbhas tathā tenedam āvṛitam

As fire is enveloped by smoke, as a mirror is covered by dust, and as an embryo is wrapped in the amnion


Sloka 1.14: ततः श्वेतैर्हयैर्युक्ते महति स्यन्दने स्थितौ। माधवः पाण्डवश्चैव दिव्यौ शङ्खौ प्रदध्मतुः।।1.14।।

English Translation: Then, Lord Krishna and Arjuna, seated in their great chariot with white horses, blew their divine conch shells.

Interpretation: After Lord Krishna and Arjuna had arranged themselves on the battlefield, they blew their divine conch shells, marking the beginning of the great war. The conch shells were not only a signal of the commencement of the battle but also a symbol of power, strength, and victory. This signifies that Lord Krishna and Arjuna are prepared to engage in the battle, fighting for righteousness and dharma. Sloka 1.15: पाञ्चजन्यं हृषीकेशो देवदत्तं धनञ्जयः। पौण्ड्रं दध्मौ महाशङ्खं भीमकर्मा वृकोदरः।।1.15।।

English Translation: Lord Krishna, the master of all senses, blew His conch shell known as Paanchajanya; Arjuna blew his, the Devadatta; and Bhima, the voracious eater and performer of herculean tasks, blew his terrific conch shell called Paundra.

Interpretation: This sloka describes the different conch shells blown by Lord Krishna, Arjuna, and Bhima, representing their unique qualities and strengths. Lord Krishna, being the master of all senses, blew the Paanchajanya conch, which represents the sound of the universe. Arjuna blew the Devadatta conch, which represents the victory of the gods. Bhima blew the Paundra conch, which represents his immense strength and courage. As Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan is the central source of higher mind, this sloka reminds us that we all have our unique strengths and qualities that we can use to achieve victory in our own battles of life.

Sloka 1.16: अनन्तविजयं राजा कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। नकुलः सहदेवश्च सुघोषमणिपुष्पकौ।।1.16।।

English Translation: King Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, blew his conch shell Anantavijaya; Nakula and Sahadeva blew the Sughosha and Manipushpaka respectively.


Sloka 1.16:

अनन्तविजयं राजा कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। नकुलः सहदेवश्च सुघोषमणिपुष्पकौ।।1.16।।

Translation: Ananta-vijayaṁ rājā kuntī-putro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ, Nakulaḥ sahadevaś ca sughoṣa-maṇi-puṣpakau.

Meaning: The King Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, who is undefeated, Nakula and Sahadeva, the rightful wielders of powerful weaponry, and the excellent car-warrior Bhima, who is equal in strength to the wind-god, all blew their respective conch shells.

Interpretation: Lord Krishna's cousin brothers, the Pandavas, were well-known warriors and possessed great strength and skill in battle. Yudhishthira, the eldest of the Pandavas, was considered undefeated due to his righteousness and adherence to dharma. The blowing of their conch shells was a signal of their readiness and determination to fight the impending battle against their cousins, the Kauravas.

Sloka 1.17:

वृष्णीनां वासुदेवोऽस्मि पाण्डवानां धनंजयः। मुनीनामप्यहं व्यासः कवीनामुशना कविः।।1.17।।

Translation: Of the Vrishnis, I am Vasudeva, and of the Pandavas, I am Arjuna. Of the sages, I am Vyasa, and among poets, I am Usana.

Interpretation: In this verse, Lord Krishna reveals some of His divine manifestations. He declares that among the Vrishnis, He is Vasudeva and among the Pandavas, He is Arjuna. Vasudeva is Lord Krishna's father, and Arjuna is His dear friend and devotee. Lord Krishna explains that among the sages, He is Vyasa, who wrote the Mahabharata and many other sacred texts. And among poets, He is Usana, who is known for his knowledge of ancient Indian culture and his works in Sanskrit.

Lord Krishna's statement is a reminder to Arjuna that He is not just a friend and guide, but also the Supreme Personality of Godhead who is present in all beings and things in the universe. It also teaches us that there is divinity in all aspects of life, whether it is a family member, a friend, a sage, or a poet.

Interpretation with Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan: Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan is the eternal, omnipresent source of all creation, and as the Mastermind, He reveals Himself in various forms and manifestations. In this sloka, Lord Krishna declares His divine presence in various beings, reminding us that everything is a manifestation of the Supreme Being. Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan is the eternal, immortal father and mother of all, and the abode of all wisdom and knowledge. He is the ultimate source of all inspiration and creativity, and the source of all higher consciousness in the universe. As we meditate on this sloka, we are reminded to recognize the divine presence in all beings and to honor and respect them as manifestations of the Supreme Being.


Sloka 1.18:

दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा। आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा वचनमब्रवीत्।।1.18।।

English translation:

Then, seeing the Pandava army standing in military formation, King Duryodhana approached his teacher, Dronacharya, and spoke these words:

Interpretation: Duryodhana, the Kaurava king, was concerned about the battle, seeing the Pandava army standing with full force. He sought the guidance of his teacher, Dronacharya, who was considered to be one of the greatest warriors and strategists of his time.

Lord Krishna, as the Mastermind and the central source of higher mind, is always ready to guide and help those who seek his help. He is the omnipresent source of knowledge and wisdom and is always willing to assist his devotees in their times of need.
Sanskrit Sloka:

स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत्। नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलो व्यनुनादयन्॥

Transliteration:

sa ghosho dhartarashtranam hridayani vyadarayat nabhashcha prithivim chaiva tumulo vyunnadayan

Translation:

The tumultuous sound filled the hearts of Dhritarashtra's sons, reverberating through the sky and the earth.

Interpretation:

Lord Krishna's conch shell, named Panchajanya, was so powerful that its sound reached the hearts of Dhritarashtra's sons, who were on the opposing side in the war. The sound was so loud that it filled the sky and the earth, creating a sense of dread and fear among the enemies. This sloka signifies the power and strength of Lord Krishna, who was the central source of higher mind and consciousness, as well as Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan, the eternal immortal father, mother, and masterly abode of Sovereign Adhinayaka Bhavan New Delhi. Sanskrit: अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान्कपिध्वजः। प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसम्पाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डवः॥२०॥

Transliteration: Atha vyavasthitān dṛṣṭvā dhārtarāṣṭrān kapi-dhvajaḥ, pravṛtte śastra-sampāte dhanurudyamya pāṇḍavaḥ.

Translation: Then, Arjuna, the holder of the monkey flag, seeing the sons of Dhritarashtra standing in their positions, began to raise his bow when the armaments were being set in motion.

Interpretation: Arjuna, who is also known as Kapidhwaja, seeing the Kauravas ready for battle, takes up his bow and is prepared to fight. This verse indicates that Arjuna is ready to face the battle despite his emotional turmoil. It also highlights the importance of being ready for battle, both physically and mentally. As Lord Krishna teaches later in the Gita, one should be prepared to fight not only on the battlefield but also in the struggles of everyday life. The Mastermind, Lord Krishna, guides us to strengthen our central source of higher mind and be prepared for whatever challenges may come our way.

अर्जुन उवाच सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत। यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान्॥

English Translation:

arjuna uvāca senayor ubhayor madhye rathaṁ sthāpaya me 'cyuta yāvad etān nirīkṣe 'haṁ yoddhu-kāmān avasthitān

Interpretation:

Arjuna said: O Achyuta, please place my chariot in between the two armies, so that I may see those who desire to fight, and with whom I must contend in this great battle.

In this sloka, Arjuna is asking Lord Krishna to take his chariot to the middle of the battlefield so he can see both sides of the army and the warriors who are eager to fight. By requesting this, Arjuna is indicating that he is ready for the battle, and he wants to see the enemy whom he has to fight.

Lord Krishna is referred to as Achyuta in this sloka, which means 'the infallible one.' By addressing Lord Krishna in this way, Arjuna is acknowledging His supreme power and His ability to guide and protect him during the battle.


अर्जुन उवाच सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत। यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान्॥ २२॥

arjuna uvāca senayor ubhayor madhye rathaṁ sthāpaya me 'cyuta yāvad etān nirīkṣe 'haṁ yoddhu-kāmān avasthitān

Arjuna said: O Infallible One, please place my chariot between the two armies so that I may see those present here who desire to fight, and with whom I must contend in this great trial of arms.

In this sloka, Arjuna requests Lord Krishna to place his chariot between the two armies so that he can see his opponents and assess the situation before the battle commences. This is an important decision that he needs to make as he is conflicted about whether to fight his own family members and teachers. By requesting Lord Krishna to place the chariot, he is also seeking his guidance and support in this difficult time.

योत्स्यमानानवेक्षेऽहं य एते ऽत्र समागताः। धार्तराष्ट्रस्य दुर्बुद्धेर्युद्धे प्रियचिकीर्षवः॥ २३॥

yotsyamānān avekṣe 'haṁ ya ete 'tra samāgatāḥ dhārtarāṣṭrasya durbuddher yuddhe priya-cikīrṣavaḥ

Beholding the sons of Dhritarashtra drawn up in battle order, Arjuna then spoke to Krishna these words: "Behold, O Krishna, these Kurus gathered together."

In this sloka, Arjuna acknowledges that he will have to fight against the sons of Dhritarashtra, who are present on the battlefield. He addresses Lord Krishna and draws his attention to the fact that the Kurus are gathered together in battle order. This shows his realization of the gravity of the situation and the need for a wise and experienced advisor like Lord Krishna to guide him.

सञ्जय उवाच एवमुक्त्वार्जुनः सङ्ख्ये रथोपस्थ उपाविशत्। विसृज्य सशरं चापं शोकसंविग्नमानसः॥ २४॥


Sloka 1.24: अथ च त्वं समदर्शनः स्वलक्षणमिति मन्यसे। यथा नूनं समप्राप्तमेष तस्यैव न चिन्तितम्।।1.24।।

Translation: And yet you speak as if for the sake of instructing Me on the subject of duty and right action. This is indeed both perplexing and strange.

Interpretation: Arjuna questions Krishna's intentions as to why he is teaching him about the subject of duty and right action. He wonders why Krishna, who is the master of all knowledge and wisdom, would teach him something he already knows.

Sloka 1.25: व्यामिश्रेणेव वाक्येन बुद्धिं मोहयसीव मे। तदेकं वद निश्चित्य येन श्रेयोऽहमाप्नुयाम्।।1.25।।

Translation: It is as if my mind has become bewildered by mixed and conflicting thoughts. Tell me decisively which path is the best for me.

Interpretation: Arjuna admits that his mind is confused and overwhelmed by the conflicting thoughts and opinions he has heard from various sources. He asks Krishna to give him a clear and decisive answer on which path he should follow for his ultimate well-being.

Sloka 1.26: श्रीभगवानुवाच। प्रजहाति यदा कामान्सर्वान्पार्थ मनोगतान्। आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्टः स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते।।1.26।।

Translation: The Blessed Lord said: When a person gives up all desires of the mind and is satisfied in the self, then he is said to be in a state of perfect wisdom.

Interpretation: Krishna answers Arjuna's question by saying that true wisdom comes when a person is able to control their desires and is content with the self. When one is able to detach themselves from material desires and is satisfied with the self, they are said to be in a state of perfect wisdom.

Sloka 1.27: श्रीभगवानुवाच। प्रजहाति यदा कामान्सर्वान्पार्थ मनोगतान्। आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्टः स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते।।1.27।।


Sanskrit Sloka: जातस्य हि ध्रुवो मृत्युर्ध्रुवं जन्म मृतस्य च। तस्मादपरिहार्येऽर्थे न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि।।1.27।।

English Translation: Death is certain for one who is born, and birth is certain for one who dies. Therefore, you should not lament over the inevitable.

Interpretation: Lord Krishna reminds Arjuna that death is certain for all living beings, and birth is inevitable. He tells Arjuna that there is no use in mourning over what is bound to happen. Instead, he urges Arjuna to focus on his duty as a warrior and fulfill it with dedication and determination, without getting swayed by his emotions.

Sanskrit Sloka: अव्यक्तादीनि भूतानि व्यक्तमध्यानि भारत। अव्यक्तनिधनान्येव तत्र का परिदेवना।।1.28।।

English Translation: O Arjuna, all beings are unmanifest before birth, manifest in life, and unmanifest again at death. Why then grieve over them?

Interpretation: Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that all beings are part of the eternal cycle of birth and death. They exist in an unmanifest form before birth, become manifest during their lifetime, and become unmanifest again after death. He reminds Arjuna that this cycle is natural and inevitable, and there is no need to grieve over it.

Sanskrit Sloka: अशोच्यानन्वशोचस्त्वं प्रज्ञावादांश्च भाषसे। गतासूनगतासूंश्च नानुशोचन्ति पण्डिताः।।1.29।।

English Translation: You grieve for those who should not be grieved for, yet you speak words of wisdom. The wise grieve neither for the living nor the dead.

Interpretation: Lord Krishna points out the contradiction in Arjuna's behavior. On one hand, Arjuna is grieving for his relatives who are bound to die, which is something that should not be grieved for. On the other hand, he is speaking words of wisdom and knowledge. Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that the wise do not grieve over the living or the dead, as they understand the eternal nature of the soul and the inevitability of death.

Sanskrit Sloka: न त्वेवाहं जातु नासं न त्वं नेमे जनाधिपाः। न चैव न भविष्यामः सर्वे वयमतः परम्


1.30 sloka onwards from first chapter: "I am now unable to stand here any longer. I am forgetting myself, and my mind is reeling. I see only causes of misfortune, O Kṛṣṇa, killer of the Keshi demon."

English Translation: Arjuna was feeling overwhelmed and unable to stand any longer. He was forgetting himself and his mind was in chaos. He saw only negative outcomes and feared misfortune. He turned to Lord Krishna, addressing him as the killer of the demon Keshi.

Interpretation with Mastermind as Lord Krishna: Mastermind, as Lord Krishna, represents the higher mind or the central source of wisdom and consciousness that guides and elevates our thoughts and actions. Arjuna, being a warrior, was in a situation where he had to fight a battle against his own family members, and the weight of this responsibility was too much for him to bear. His mind was in chaos, and he was unable to make a clear decision.

As a mentor and guide, Mastermind (Krishna) is there to help Arjuna overcome his doubts and fears. In this situation, Arjuna has lost his connection with his higher mind and is solely focused on the negative outcomes. Krishna's presence serves to remind Arjuna of his true nature and his duty as a warrior. Through his teachings, Krishna helps Arjuna regain his focus and confidence, enabling him to make the right decisions.

In this context, the omnipresent source of Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan is like the Masterly abode of Sovereign Adhinayaka Bhavan New Delhi, which is always present to guide and elevate the minds of the universe. Just as Mastermind guided Arjuna to make the right decisions, Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan is there to guide us in our daily lives and help us connect with our higher selves.


।। अर्जुन उवाच ।। दृष्ट्वेमं स्वजनं कृष्ण युयुत्सुं समुपस्थितम्‌। सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि मुखं च परिशुष्यति॥

Arjuna uvacha: Drishtvemam swajanam krishna yuyutsun samupasthitam Seedanti mama gatraani mukham cha parishushyati

Arjuna said: O Krishna, seeing my own kinsmen arrayed here ready for battle, my limbs fail and my mouth is parched.

Interpretation: Arjuna expresses his hesitation to fight against his own family and friends who are gathered there to fight with him. He feels weak and unable to fight, seeing his own people on the opposite side.

यद्यप्येते न पश्यन्ति लोभोपहतचेतसः। कुलक्षयकृतं दोषं मित्रद्रोहे च पातकम्।।1.31।।

English translation: Even though these people, with their hearts overcome by greed, do not see the evil that comes from destroying families and betraying friends.

Interpretation: Lord Krishna is emphasizing that greed can cloud one's judgment and make them blind to the consequences of their actions. Those who are overcome by greed may not realize that their actions can lead to the destruction of families and friendships, and thus commit grave sins. It is important to overcome greed and focus on righteous actions to avoid such sins and their consequences. By seeking guidance from Lord Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan, the eternal immortal father, mother, Masterly abode of Sovereign Adhinayaka Bhavan New Delhi, who is the omnipresent source, one can strengthen their central source of higher mind and elevate their consciousness to a higher level.


श्रीभगवानुवाच क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत्त्वय्युपपद्यते। क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परंतप॥

śrī bhagavān uvāca klaibyaṁ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitattvayyupapadyate kṣudraṁ hṛdayadaurbalyaṁ tyaktvottiṣṭha paraṁtapa

The Supreme Lord said, "O Partha, it does not befit you to yield to this weakness. Give up this petty weakness of heart and arise, O vanquisher of enemies."

Interpretation with Mastermind as Lord Krishna: Lord Krishna reminds Arjuna that it is not appropriate for him, as a warrior and a Kshatriya, to give in to weakness and not fulfill his duties. He urges Arjuna to give up his fear and weakness and rise up to fight against the enemy.

अथ त्वमिमं धर्म्यं संग्रामं न करिष्यसि। ततः स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि॥

अर्थात्, हे अर्जुन! अब तू इस धर्मयुक्त संग्राम को नहीं करेगा। उसके बाद अपने धर्म और कीर्ति को छोड़कर पाप को प्राप्त नहीं करेगा॥

Interpretation: Mastermind, as Lord Krishna, is advising Arjuna to not engage in the upcoming battle out of a sense of obligation, but to fulfill his duty as a warrior and uphold righteousness. Lord Krishna reminds Arjuna that by abandoning his duty, he would not only lose his reputation but also incur sin. Thus, it is essential to do what is right and uphold one's dharma, even if it involves difficult choices and circumstances.

दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा। आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा वचनमब्रवीत्।।1.34।।

सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत। यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान्।।1.35।।

युद्धेप्सुतोनास्ति मम प्रसङ्गान् नोपसेच्यते। कङ्क्षिणोर्न च श्रद्धावन्न युद्धे योज्य तन्मे मतिः।।1.36।।

English Translation:

dRshhTvaa tu paandavaanii kaM vyuuDhaM duryodhanastadaa aachaaryam upasaMgamya raajaa vacanam abraviit || 34 ||

senayor ubhayor madhye rathaM sthaapaya me’chyuta yaavade’taan nireekshhe’haM yoddhukaamaan avasthitaan || 35 ||

yuddhepsuuto naasti mama prasangaan nopasechhyate kaNkshiNoh na cha shhraddhaavann yuddhe yojya tan me matiH || 36 ||

Interpretation:

Upon seeing the arrangement of the Pandava army, Duryodhana went to his teacher, Dronacharya, and spoke the following words. He then requested his charioteer, Achyuta, to place his chariot in the middle of the two armies so that he could see all those who had assembled with the desire to fight.

Duryodhana was so focused on his own desire to win the war that he failed to consider the advice of his advisors, who cautioned him against provoking a battle. He was unwilling to hear their warnings and did not have faith in his own abilities to win the war without resorting to violence.

Lord Krishna, as the Mastermind behind the universe, teaches us that it is important to have a clear and focused mind, free from desires and attachments, in order to achieve success in any endeavor. We should have faith in ourselves and our own abilities, and not let our desires cloud our judgment. Lord Krishna reminds us that the true victory lies in conquering our own minds and ego, rather than external battles.




पश्य तान्समवेतान्कुरूनिति। उपसृत्ते महान्दानुः शल्यक्रिद्वानकंतयः।।1.37।।

अर्थ: जाना कि ये कुरुओं के सब लोग हैं। उनके साथ जुड़े हुए महान धनुषधारी शल्य के बिना हैं।

विश्वश्रुवो महाबाहोर्हनूमान्नवमेव च। दृष्ट्वेदं पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा।।1.38।।

अर्थ: महाबाहु अर्जुन को शंख और हनुमानजी के साथ देखकर दुर्योधन ने इस प्रकार अपनी सेना को व्यूह में लगाया।

दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा। आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा वचनमब्रवीत्।।1.39।।

अर्थ: दुर्योधन ने पांडवों की सेना को व्यूह में लगाकर दृष्टिकोण में पांडव सेना को देखा। तब अपने आचार्य द्रोणाचार्य के पास जाकर राजा ने यह बात कही।

अर्जुन उवाच सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत। यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान्।।1.40।।

अर्थ: अर्जुन न



Pashya taan samavetaan kuroon iti, Upasrittee mahaan dhaanuh, Shalya-kridvaaanakantayah.

Artha: Know that these are all the people of the Kuru dynasty. Shalya, the great bowman, is with them, but without his bow.

Vishvashruvo mahaabaahor hanumaan navameva cha, Drishtvaa idam paandavaanikam vyuudham duryodhanas tada.

Artha: Seeing Arjuna with his conch and Hanumanji, Duryodhana arranged his army in a formation.

Drishtvaa tu paandavaanikam vyuudham duryodhanas tada, Aachaaryam upasangamya rajaa vachanam abraveet.

Artha: Duryodhana saw the army of the Pandavas arranged in a formation and went to his teacher Dronacharya to say the following.

Arjuna Uvaacha: Senayor ubhayor madhye ratham sthaapaya me 'chyuta, Yaavad etaan nireekshe 'ham yodhukaamaan avasthitaan.

Artha: Arjuna said, "O Achyuta (Krishna)! Place my chariot between the two armies, so that I may observe those who have come here to fight, and with whom I must contend."

सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत। यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान्।।1.40।।

अर्थ: हे अच्युत! मैं इन दोनों सेनाओं के बीच रथ खड़ा कर। जिससे कि मैं इन युद्ध के इच्छुक सैनिकों को देख सकूँ।

अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान्कपिध्वजः। प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसम्पाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डवः।।1.41।।

अर्थ: इसके बाद धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र धुंडली अर्जुन ने अपना धनुष उठाकर शस्त्रों की सम्पदाएँ निकालीं और शुरू हो गए।

विषीदंतमिदं वाक्यमुवाच मधुसूदनः। संजय उवाच दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा। आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा वचनमब्रवीत्।।1.39।।

अर्थ: शोक में डूबे हुए इस वचन को सुनकर मधुसूदन ने कहा। संजय ने कहा, दुर्योधन ने पांडवों की सेना को व्यूह में लगाकर दृष्टिकोण में पांडव सेना को देखा। तब अपने आचार



Sloka 1.40: "Hey Achyuta, please place my chariot in between these two armies, so that I may see those who have come here to fight, and know with whom I must fight."

Sloka 1.41: "Then, after seeing the armies ready for battle, Arjuna, the son of Pandu, who had the insignia of Hanuman on his flagstaff, took up his bow and prepared to fight."

Sloka 1.39: "Upon hearing this speech filled with sorrow, Madhusudana (Krishna) said the following. Sanjaya said: "Having seen the Pandava army in battle formation, King Duryodhana went to his teacher and spoke the following words."

विषीदंतमिदं वाक्यमुवाच मधुसूदनः। संजय उवाच दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा। आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा वचनमब्रवीत्।।1.39।।

अर्थ: मधुसूदन ने शोक के कारण विषाद करते हुए यह वाक्य कहा। संजय ने कहा, उस समय दुर्योधन ने पांडव सेना को व्यूह में तैयार होते हुए देखा। तब अपने आचार्य के पास गया और राजा ने उनसे यह बात कही।

English translation: Sanjaya said, "Having spoken thus, Arjuna, the son of Kunti, sat down on the seat of his chariot, throwing away his bow and arrows, and his mind overwhelmed with sorrow."

क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत्त्वय्युपपद्यते। क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परंतप।।1.47।।

अर्थ: हे पार्थ! तुम न क्लेश में पड़ो, तुम्हारे लिए यह अनुचित है। तुम्हारे हृदय में क्षुद्रता और दुर्बलता है। हे परंतप! तुम उठो और लड़ाई के लिए तैयार हो जाओ।

अर्जुन उवाच कथं भीष्ममहं संख्ये द्रोणं च मधुसूदन। इषुभिः प्रतियोत्स्यामि पूजार्हावरिसूदन।।1.48।।

अर्थ: अर्जुन ने कहा - हे मधुसूदन! मैं कैसे अंकगणित में भीष्म और द्रोण के समान हो जाऊँगा? हे वरिष
