🌿 Prakriti (Nature/Energy)

Prakriti is the embodiment of energy — the root cause of all creation.

It is composed of three fundamental gunas (qualities):

The combination of these three gunas gives rise to the universe, living beings, matter, and emotions.

Prakriti itself is inert — it does not possess consciousness. However, when it comes near Purusha, it becomes active and dynamic as if infused with consciousness.

🕉️ Purusha (Consciousness/Spirit)

Purusha is pure consciousness, the eternal witness, immortal, and beyond all attributes (nirguna).

He does not perform any action, yet all actions occur in His presence.

The scriptures say:

> “Purusha-sākṣātkāre sarva-duḥkha-kṣayo bhavati.”

(When one realizes the true nature of Purusha, all sorrows come to an end.)

Purusha is the divine witness who makes Prakriti manifest.

🌺 Union of Prakriti and Purusha

When these two eternal realities unite, the process of creation begins.

Purusha is the witness; Prakriti is the doer.

In the presence of Purusha, Prakriti starts to move and evolve, leading to the formation of Mahat (cosmic intelligence), Ahamkara (ego), mind, senses, and the five elements.

This relationship is similar to the Shiva–Shakti principle — Shiva is pure consciousness, and Shakti is the manifestation of that consciousness.

📜 As Described in the Scriptures

1. In the Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 13), Lord Krishna says:

> “Prakritim puruṣam caiva viddhy anādi ubhāv api.”

(Know that both Prakriti and Purusha are without beginning; both are the source of creation.)

2. In the Shrimad Bhagavata Purana:

> Lord Vishnu represents the Purusha principle, and Maha Maya represents the Prakriti principle.

The union of these two results in creation, preservation, and dissolution.

3. In the Shiva Purana:

> Lord Shiva is formless consciousness, and Goddess Parvati is the embodiment of energy.

Their union gives rise to the entire universe.

🌞 Philosophical Interpretation

Within every human being exists the balance of Prakriti and Purusha.

The body, mind, senses, and actions belong to Prakriti.

The soul and witnessing consciousness belong to Purusha.

Through the paths of Yoga and Jnana (knowledge), one can transcend this duality and realize Supreme Consciousness or Self-realization.

> Prakriti is energy — the force that acts.

Purusha is consciousness — the witnessing awareness.

Their union gives rise to creation.

Their realization leads to liberation (moksha).

From a spiritual perspective, the Prakriti–Purusha principle represents the union of primal consciousness and energy within each being, a cosmic truth that exists from the vast universe to the smallest living entity.
