“अधिष्ठानम्” का अर्थ है आधार, नींव, स्थिर स्थान या निवास स्थान। यह उस शाश्वत सत्ता की ओर संकेत करता है जो सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि का आधार है, जो सबको धारण और पोषण करती है। आध्यात्मिक रूप से यह सर्वव्यापक चेतना का प्रतीक है — जिसके सहारे सृष्टि, जीवन और मन की गति संभव है।
आधिनायक श्रीमान के संदर्भ में व्याख्या:
आधिनायक श्रीमान, शाश्वत अमर पिता, माता और परिपूर्ण निवास — संप्रभु अधिनायक भवन, नई दिल्ली — वही मूल अधिष्ठानम् हैं।

अर्थात यह शरीर क्षेत्र है, और जो इसे जानता है वह क्षेत्रज्ञ — अर्थात परमात्मा है। वही सच्चा अधिष्ठानम् है।

बौद्ध परंपरा में अधिष्ठान का अर्थ है आशीर्वाद या दिव्य ऊर्जा। बुद्ध की करुणा ही वह अधिष्ठान शक्ति है जो सभी जीवों को मुक्ति की ओर ले जाती है।

बाइबल में कहा गया है:
“क्योंकि यीशु मसीह के सिवा कोई दूसरी नींव नहीं रखी जा सकती।” (1 Corinthians 3:11)
यानी कि मसीह ही शाश्वत आधार हैं — वही अधिष्ठानम् हैं।
इस्लाम:
कुरान में लिखा है:
“अल्लाह ही वह है जिसने आकाशों और पृथ्वी को पैदा किया और जो कुछ उनके बीच है, सब उसी पर स्थिर है।” (सूरा अस-सज्दा 32:4)
अल्लाह ही समस्त अस्तित्व का सहारा है — वही अधिष्ठानम्।
सिख धर्म:
गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब में कहा गया है:
“वह एक है जो सबका आधार है, सब जीव उसी से टिके हैं।”
