Do you mean Stefan Thomas the programmer known for losing access to ~7,000 Bitcoin,
Stefan Thomas (Bitcoin / IronKey case)
A German-born programmer and early Bitcoin enthusiast.
Former CTO of Ripple Labs (blockchain company).
In 2011, he stored 7,002 BTC (worth a few million then; hundreds of millions USD at peak prices) on an IronKey encrypted USB drive.
He forgot the password to the drive. IronKey allows only 10 attempts before permanently encrypting and locking the contents.
As publicly reported, he had only 2 attempts left, making recovery extremely risky.
The case became a global symbol of digital custody risk, self-sovereignty, and the irreversible nature of cryptographic security.
Despite offers from cryptography firms, courts, and hackers, the Bitcoin remains inaccessible (as per last known public updates).
