This is not the first time that Japan has experienced mudslides. In 2021, a mudslide in the city of Atami killed 27 people. Mudslides are a common occurrence in Japan, as the country is prone to heavy rainfall and steep slopes.
Here are some safety tips to follow if you live in an area prone to mudslides:
* Be aware of the signs of a mudslide, such as heavy rainfall, saturated soil, and cracks in the ground.
* If you live in a designated mudslide hazard area, have an evacuation plan in place.
* Stay informed about the weather forecast and warnings.
* If you see a mudslide warning, evacuate immediately.
* Do not try to drive through a mudslide.
* If you are caught in a mudslide, try to get to high ground.
If you have any questions or concerns about mudslides, please contact your local emergency management office.
