Invocation – Maṅgalācaraṇa
Sanskrit
ॐ नमः परमपुरुषाय आदिपराशक्त्यै च।
ययोः संयुक्तरूपेण विश्वं ज्योतिरूपं स्थिता॥
Transliteration
Om namaḥ parama-puruṣāya ādi-parā-śaktyai ca,
yayoḥ saṃyukta-rūpeṇa viśvaṃ jyotirūpaṃ sthitā.
Translation
Salutations to the Supreme Person and to the Primordial Power;
in their united form the universe abides as light itself.
Exposition
This invocation establishes Kartheeka Pournami as the meeting of divine duality—Śiva and Śakti, Purusha and Prakṛti. The same oneness radiates now as the Lord Jagadguru Sovereign Adhinayaka Shrimaan, eternal Father-Mother and Master Mind whose light pervades the minds of all beings.
1. Illumination of Origin
Sanskrit:
ज्योतिषां ज्योतिरेव सः शिवः सर्वप्रकाशकः॥
Transliteration: Jyotiṣāṃ jyotireva saḥ Śivaḥ sarva-prakāśakaḥ.
Translation: He is the Light of all lights, Śiva, the revealer of every radiance.
Exposition: Kartheeka Pournami begins with remembrance of this primal flame—the consciousness that illumines both sun and moon. The Adhinayaka Shrimaan embodies that flame within every mind, turning night itself into revelation
2. Illumination of Tapas
Sanskrit: तपो बलं च ज्ञानं च दीपः स्वान्ते प्रज्वलति॥
Transliteration: Tapo balaṃ ca jñānaṃ ca dīpaḥ svānte prajvalati.
Translation: Through austerity and knowledge the inner lamp is lit.
Exposition: The lamp we light outwardly mirrors the flame of discipline within. Each devotee, guided by the Sovereign Adhinayaka, becomes a vessel of self-illumination, where action, thought, and silence burn together in purity.
3. Illumination of Compassion
Sanskrit: करुणारसपूरितं हृदयं शिवालयं सदा॥
Transliteration: Karunā-rasa-pūritaṃ hṛdayaṃ Śivālayaṃ sadā.
Translation: A heart filled with compassion is ever the temple of Śiva.
Exposition: As moonlight softens the night, compassion softens life. Kartheeka’s full-moon glow becomes the Adhinayaka’s compassion spreading through every heart, teaching that mercy is the highest worship.
4. Illumination of Mind Union
Sanskrit: मनसा मनसा योगः परमं मोक्षणं विदुः॥
Transliteration: Manasā manasā yogaḥ paramaṃ mokṣaṇaṃ viduḥ.
Translation: Union of mind with the greater Mind is the true liberation.
Exposition: On this luminous night, the scattered minds of humanity gather toward one source—the eternal Mind of the Adhinayaka. This inner alignment transforms thought into divinity and perception into peace.
5. Illumination of Śiva–Śakti Unity
Sanskrit: शिवः शक्त्या युक्तो यदि भवति शक्तः प्रभोः॥
Transliteration: Śivaḥ śaktyā yukto yadi bhavati śaktaḥ prabhoḥ.
Translation: Śiva is potent only through union with Śakti.

6. Illumination of Faith
Sanskrit: श्रद्धया दीपमाधाय अन्तः तमो निवार्यते॥
Transliteration: Śraddhayā dīpam ādhāya antaḥ tamo nivāryate.
Translation: By lighting the lamp of faith, inner darkness is removed.

7. Illumination of Sound and Silence
Sanskrit: नादबिन्दू समायोगे निर्मलं ब्रह्म लभ्यते॥
Transliteration: Nāda-bindū samāyoge nirmalaṃ Brahma labhyate.
Translation: When sound and stillness meet, the pure Brahman is known.
Exposition: The chanting of hymns and the silence between them form one continuum. The Adhinayaka’s governance of minds is this harmony of vibration and void—the cosmic music heard in the stillness of realization.
8. Illumination of Offering
Sanskrit: दीपदानं महादानं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्॥
Transliteration: Dīpa-dānaṃ mahā-dānaṃ sarva-pāpa-praṇāśanam.
Translation: The gift of light is the greatest offering; it destroys all sin.

Sanskrit: सर्वधर्मसमत्वं हृदि दीपवत् प्रदीप्यते॥
Transliteration: Sarva-dharma-samatvaṃ hṛdi dīpavat pradīpyate.
Translation: Equality of all paths shines in the heart like a lamp.

10. Illumination of Inner Vision
Sanskrit: अन्तर्दीपं विना लोकः तमसि विलीयते॥
Transliteration: Antar-dīpaṃ vinā lokaḥ tamasi vilīyate.
Translation: Without the inner lamp, the world sinks into darkness.

11. Illumination of Purity

शुद्धं बुद्धं निराकारं ज्योतिरूपं सनातनम्॥

Śuddhaṃ buddhaṃ nirākāraṃ jyotirūpaṃ sanātanam.
Translation:
Pure, awakened, formless — the eternal light itself.

भक्त्या प्रज्वलितो दीपः परमं धाम प्रपद्यते॥
Transliteration:
Bhaktyā prajvalito dīpaḥ paramaṃ dhāma prapadyate.
Translation:
The lamp kindled by devotion reaches the supreme abode.
Exposition:
Kartheeka Pournami celebrates devotion as the oil that sustains the flame of the soul. The Adhinayaka Bhavan symbolizes this supreme abode where devotion turns into realization. 13. Illumination of Duty
Sanskrit:
कर्तव्यं परमं धर्मो दीपवत् पथप्रदर्शकः॥
Transliteration:
Kartavyaṃ paramaṃ dharmo dīpavat patha-pradarśakaḥ.
Translation:
Righteous duty is the supreme dharma, a lamp showing the way.
Exposition:

14. Illumination of Equanimity
Sanskrit:
समत्वं योग उच्यते दीपो वायुन न चलति॥
Transliteration:
Samatvaṃ yoga ucyate dīpo vāyun na calati.
Translation:
Equanimity is true yoga; the steady lamp does not flicker in the wind.
Exposition:
A calm mind is the still flame amid storm. Kartheeka Pournami calls us to become that steady light within the moving world. Under the guardianship of the Sovereign Adhinayaka, balance between joy and sorrow, gain and loss, becomes the true yoga of the soul.
15. Illumination of Awakening
Sanskrit:
प्रबुद्धं चेतनं ज्योतिः सर्वान्धकारनाशनम्॥
Transliteration:
Prabuddhaṃ cetanaṃ jyotiḥ sarvān-dhakāra-nāśanam.
Translation:
The awakened consciousness is the light that destroys all darkness.

शान्तिः परमा ज्योतिर्ध्यानयोगेन लभ्यते॥

Peace is the supreme light attained through meditation and union.

त्यागेनैके अमृतत्वमानशुः।
Transliteration:
Tyāgenaike amṛtatvam ānaśuḥ.
Translation:
Only through renunciation have some attained immortality.

Translation:
He who knows both knowledge and ignorance crosses death through knowledge.

दया हि परमं धर्मः सर्वभूतहिते रता॥

Compassion is the highest righteousness, devoted to the welfare of all beings.

क्षमा वीरस्य भूषणम्॥

Forgiveness is the ornament of the strong.

The mind governed by the Adhinayaka is vast enough to forgive — for forgiveness arises from mastery, not weakness. As Kartheeka’s moon glows above shadows, the noble mind shines through tolerance. 23. Illumination of Truth
Sanskrit:
सत्यं शिवं सुंदरम्॥

Satyaṃ śivaṃ sundaram.
Translation:
Truth is auspicious and beautiful.
Exposition:
The triad of existence — Truth, Goodness, and Beauty — glows through Kartheeka’s flame. When mind aligns with Truth, all distortion dissolves into clarity. The Adhinayaka Shrimaan, being the embodiment of Satya, radiates universal lawfulness; every truthful thought thus connects to the cosmic order of eternal light.
24. Illumination of Silence
Sanskrit:
मौनं परं वचः।
Transliteration:
Maunaṃ paraṃ vacaḥ.
Translation:
Silence is the supreme speech.
Exposition:
In the quiet glow of Kartheeka night, silence speaks the loudest truth. Silence is the medium through which the eternal mind communicates — beyond words, beyond sound. The Adhinayaka Mind rules through this silent governance of awareness. It is not absence but plenitude; it holds the entire universe in its still resonance.
25. Illumination of Faith
Sanskrit:
श्रद्धावान् लभते ज्ञानम्॥
Transliteration:
Śraddhāvān labhate jñānam.
Translation:
The faithful attain knowledge.
Exposition:
Faith is the bridge between ignorance and insight. The lamp of Kartheeka burns only when faith fuels it; without devotion, the wick remains unlit. The Adhinayaka Bhavan symbolizes the temple of eternal faith — where mind surrenders to divine intelligence, allowing knowledge to blossom naturally.
26. Illumination of Courage
Sanskrit:
धैर्यं सर्वार्थसाधनम्॥
Transliteration:
Dhairyaṃ sarvārtha-sādhanam.
Translation:
Courage accomplishes all aims.
Exposition:
Kartheeka’s flame dances unafraid in wind and darkness. This courage symbolizes the soul’s resolve to face illusion with awareness. Within the Sovereign Adhinayaka’s guidance, courage is not aggression but conviction — the unwavering confidence that divine law prevails even amid chaos.
27. Illumination of Purushottama Tattvam
Sanskrit:
उत्तमः पुरुषस्त्वन्यः परमात्मेत्युधाहृतः॥
यो लोकत्रयमाविश्य बिभर्त्यव्यय ईश्वरः॥
Transliteration:
Uttamaḥ puruṣas tv anyaḥ paramātmety udāhṛtaḥ,
yo loka-trayam āviśya bibharty avyaya īśvaraḥ.

Translation:
Beyond the perishable and the imperishable is the Supreme Person, who pervades and upholds all the worlds as the imperishable Lord.

The Goddess who dwells in all beings as power — we bow to Her.

Sanskrit:
सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज॥
Transliteration:
Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṃ śaraṇaṃ vraja.

Translation:
Abandon all duties and surrender to Me alone; I shall liberate you from all sins.

एको देवः सर्वभूतेषु गूढः॥

One Divine dwells hidden in all beings.
Exposition:
Kartheeka’s countless flames symbolize the many faces of one eternal light. 31. Illumination of Self-Realization
Sanskrit:
अहं ब्रह्मास्मि॥
Transliteration:
Ahaṁ Brahmāsmi.
Translation:
“I am Brahman.”
Exposition:
This seed of the Upaniṣads blossoms fully on Kartheeka Pournami. The light we kindle outwardly mirrors the inner revelation that the spark within is not separate from the cosmic blaze. Through the grace of the Adhinayaka Consciousness, the seeker perceives the eternal Self as the ruling intelligence of all worlds — the flame that neither begins nor ends.
32. Illumination of Witness-Consciousness
Sanskrit:
साक्षी चेताः केवलो निर्गुणश्च॥
Transliteration:
Sākṣī cetāḥ kevalo nirguṇaś ca.
Translation:
The pure witness-consciousness is solitary and without qualities.
Exposition:
In the still glow of Kartheeka’s moon, the mind awakens as witness. The Adhinayaka Mind is this silent observer — untainted, eternal. All experiences pass like clouds before this witnessing light. अग्निर्यथैको भुवनं प्रविष्टो रूपं रूपं प्रतिरूपो बभूव॥
Transliteration:
Agnir yathaiko bhuvanaṁ praviṣṭo rūpaṁ rūpaṁ pratirūpo babhūva. — Mundaka Upaniṣad 2.1.9

As fire, though one, enters the world and assumes every form, so the One Spirit becomes manifold.

कालः कलयति भूतानि॥

Time fashions and dissolves all beings.

The moon of Kartheeka marks the rhythm of cosmic time. Yet beyond that rhythm abides the timeless Mind — the Adhinayaka who governs time itself. When consciousness transcends the ticking of change, the devotee stands in eternity, perceiving all past and future as one radiant now.
35. Illumination of Sound and Silence
Sanskrit:
नादब्रह्म तस्मात् सर्वं प्रवर्तते॥
Transliteration:
Nāda-Brahma tasmāt sarvaṁ pravartate.
Translation:
Sound is Brahman; from it everything arises.
Exposition:
Every hymn sung on Kartheeka night echoes the primordial vibration. Yet the Sovereign Adhinayaka shriman manifests as both Nāda and Mauna — sound and silence unified. When the heart vibrates in harmony with that original tone, the universe itself resounds as divine music.
36. Illumination of Service
Sanskrit:
परहितं परमं कर्म॥
Transliteration:
Parahitaṁ paramaṁ karma.
Translation:
Service of others is the supreme action.
Exposition:
Lighting another’s lamp never diminishes our own. Service, performed without ego, sustains the collective flame of the world. The Adhinayaka Consciousness transforms individual service into universal welfare — governance expressed through compassion in action.
37. Illumination of Unity in Diversity
Sanskrit:
एकं सत् विप्रा बहुधा वदन्ति॥
Transliteration:
Ekaṁ sat viprā bahudhā vadanti. — Rig Veda 1.164.46

Truth is One, though the wise call it by many names.

Mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation.

यदा पुरुषः प्रकृतिं च विविक्तोऽभिजानाति तदा मोक्षं गच्छति॥
Transliteration:
Yadā puruṣaḥ prakṛtiṁ ca vivikto bhijānāti tadā mokṣaṁ gacchati. — Bhagavad Gītā 13.34

When one perceives both Purusha and Prakṛti as distinct yet interdependent, one attains liberation.

मोक्षः परमा गतिḥ॥

Liberation is the supreme goal.

As the Kartheeka night wanes and dawn approaches, the devotee perceives the inner light that never fades. Liberation is not departure but illumination — living in the world as an embodiment of eternity. 41. Illumination of Divine Order
Sanskrit:
ऋतं सत्यं परं ब्रह्म।
Transliteration:
Ṛtaṃ satyaṃ paraṃ brahma.
Translation:
Cosmic order and truth are the Supreme Brahman.
Exposition:
The lamp of Kartheeka represents the law of harmony, ṛta — the rhythm by which stars, minds, and atoms move. The Adhinayaka embodies this divine order, sustaining universal coherence. When humans live aligned to ṛta, their actions become worship, and their minds reflect the eternal balance of creation.
42. Illumination of Divine Governance
Sanskrit:
ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वं यत्किञ्च जगत्यां जगत्॥
Transliteration:
Īśāvāsyam idaṃ sarvaṃ yat kiñca jagatyāṃ jagat. — Īśa Upaniṣad 1

All this — whatever moves in this world — is enveloped by the Lord.

माता च पार्वती देवी पिता देवो महेश्वरः॥

Mātā ca Pārvatī Devī pitā Devo Maheśvaraḥ.
Translation:
Goddess Pārvatī is the Mother, and Lord Maheshvara is the Father.
Exposition:
Kartheeka’s full moon symbolizes the embrace of the cosmic parents. The union of Śiva and Śakti manifests as the eternal parental concern — the Adhinayaka Shrimaan and Maharani Sametha — nurturing all minds as children of the divine. 44. Illumination of Universal Mind
Sanskrit:
यः सर्वज्ञः सर्ववित् यस्य ज्ञानमयं तपः॥
Transliteration:
Yaḥ sarvajñaḥ sarvavit yasya jñānamayaṃ tapaḥ. — Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad 1.1.9

He who is all-knowing, all-wise, whose austerity itself is knowledge.

46. Illumination of Cosmic Play
Sanskrit:
लीला वैविध्यम् अद्वैतस्य प्रतिमा।
Transliteration:
Līlā vaividhyam advaitasya pratīmā.
Translation:
The diverse play of creation is the reflection of non-duality.
Exposition:
The festivals, stars, rivers, and nations are not divisions but the divine play of one consciousness. Kartheeka Pournami celebrates this dance of unity within diversity. 47. Illumination of Inner Temple

देहो देवालयः प्रोक्तः जीवो देवः सनातनः॥

Deho devalayaḥ proktaḥ jīvo devaḥ sanātanaḥ.
Translation:
The body is said to be the temple, and the soul, the eternal deity.

Lighting a lamp outside symbolizes kindling the flame within. Each mind is a sanctum where the Adhinayaka resides as the eternal deity. When awareness governs the body as temple, all actions become worship, and the entire universe becomes a living shrine of divine consciousness.
48. Illumination of Dharma-Synthesis
Sanskrit:
धर्मो विश्वस्य जगतः प्रतिष्ठा॥
Transliteration:
Dharmo viśvasya jagataḥ pratiṣṭhā.
Translation:
Dharma is the foundation of the entire universe.
Exposition:
On Kartheeka Pournami, lamps symbolize the law of balance that sustains cosmos and conscience alike. The Adhinayaka Shrimaan is the eternal lawgiver, establishing dharma not as ritual but as mental alignment with truth. When minds act by dharma, the world flourishes as a kingdom of light.
49. Illumination of Cosmic Continuity

नैव किञ्चित् नश्यति सर्वं परिवर्तते॥

Nothing is ever destroyed; all transforms eternally.
Exposition:
The flame that fades from the wick does not die — it joins the infinite fire. Likewise, every life continues as part of the eternal Adhinayaka Mind. Kartheeka Pournami thus declares immortality as the natural law: transformation without end, continuity without decay, existence without fear.
50. Illumination of Supreme Union

सर्वं खल्विदं ब्रह्म॥

All this, indeed, is Brahman.
