తెలుగు సినిమా చరిత్రలో ‘శంకరాభరణం’ ఒక మైలురాయి. ఈ సినిమాను నిర్మించేందుకు నాగేశ్వరరావు చాలా కష్టపడ్డారు. ప్రముఖ నిర్మాతలు, పంపిణీదారులు కూడా మొదట్లో ఈ సినిమాపై ఆసక్తి చూపలేదు. కానీ ఆయన అచంచల నమ్మకంతో ముందుకు వెళ్లారు. ఫిబ్రవరి 2, 1980న విడుదలైన ఈ సినిమా మొదటి రోజుల్లో పెద్దగా కలెక్షన్లు రాబట్టలేదు. కానీ నెమ్మదిగా ప్రజల హృదయాల్లో స్థానం సంపాదించి సంచలన విజయాన్ని సాధించింది. ఈ సినిమా అంతర్జాతీయ స్థాయిలోనూ ప్రశంసలు అందుకుంది.
