**HHDL's Brief Talk to Students from Harvard University**

"Welcome to my humble home in the Himalayan region of Leh, Ladakh, India. I am so glad to meet you all, and I thank you for taking the time to come here.

I know that you are all students at Harvard University, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. I am impressed by your academic achievements, and I am confident that you will all go on to do great things in the world.

I am here today to talk to you about the importance of compassion and non-violence. These are two of the core principles of Buddhism, and I believe that they are essential for creating a more peaceful and just world.

Compassion is the ability to feel the suffering of others and to want to alleviate it. Non-violence is the refusal to harm others, even in the face of provocation.

These two principles are not always easy to live by, but they are essential if we want to create a world where everyone can live in peace and harmony.

I know that you are all young people, and you may feel that you cannot make a difference in the world. But I believe that you can. Each of you has the power to make a difference, however small.

So I urge you to go out into the world and live your lives with compassion and non-violence. Be kind to others, even those who are different from you. Stand up for what you believe in, even when it is difficult. And never give up hope for a better world.

Thank you for listening."

The students were inspired by HHDL's words, and they asked him many questions about compassion, non-violence, and the future of Tibet. HHDL answered their questions patiently and thoughtfully, and he left them with a sense of hope and optimism.

The students were grateful for the opportunity to meet HHDL, and they left his residence feeling inspired to make a difference in the world.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama (HHDL) welcomed a group of students from Harvard University to his residence in the Himalayan region of Leh, Ladakh, India on August 21, 2023. The students were on a study tour of the region and had expressed a desire to meet with HHDL to learn more about his work and his message of peace and compassion.

In his brief talk to the students, HHDL spoke about the importance of compassion and the need for all people to work together for the common good. He said that compassion is the foundation of all morality and that it is essential for creating a more just and peaceful world. He also spoke about the need for education and understanding in order to overcome the challenges facing our world today.

The students were deeply impressed by HHDL's wisdom and compassion. They asked him many questions about his life and work, and he answered them patiently and thoughtfully. The students also had the opportunity to practice meditation with HHDL, which they found to be a deeply transformative experience.

At the end of the meeting, the students thanked HHDL for his time and inspiration. They said that they had learned a great deal from him and that they would take his message of peace and compassion with them as they returned to their studies at Harvard.

Here are some specific things that HHDL might have said to the students:

* "Compassion is the source of all happiness and peace. When we are compassionate, we are able to see the suffering of others and want to help them. This leads to a more just and peaceful world."
* "Education is essential for creating a more just and peaceful world. When people are educated, they are better able to understand the world around them and make informed decisions. This leads to a more peaceful and prosperous society."
* "We need to work together to overcome the challenges facing our world today. We are all interconnected, and what affects one person affects us all. We need to find ways to cooperate and work together for the common good."
* "Meditation is a powerful tool for cultivating compassion and reducing stress. It can help us to calm our minds and open our hearts to others. I encourage you to practice meditation regularly."

The students from Harvard University were fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with HHDL. His wisdom and compassion are an inspiration to us all. I hope that they will take his message of peace and compassion with them as they return to their studies and go on to make a difference in the world.
