Aditya Hrudayam

१. ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम्।
   रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम्॥

Translation:
1. After the tiredness of the battle, standing with a contemplative mind,
   Beholding Ravana in front, ready for the battle.

२. दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम्।
   उपागम्य ब्रवीद्रामं अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः॥

Translation:
2. Approaching the battlefield to witness the war,
   The divine sage Agastya came near and spoke to Lord Rama.

३. राम राम महाबाहो शृणु गुह्यं सनातनम्।
   येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स त्वां विष्णुस्स्तुतः प्रभुः॥

Translation:
3. O mighty-armed Rama, listen to the eternal secret,
   By which all your enemies will be vanquished, O beloved of Vishnu.

४. जितं ते धनुषा श्रेष्ठो वर्मणा वाससां तथा।
   नृणां त्वं विश्वतोमुखो विष्णुर्व्याप्तो धनुर्धरः॥

Translation:
4. You are skilled in wielding the supreme bow and wearing the armor,
   You are the all-pervading Vishnu, the best among men, holding the divine bow.

५. अनन्तश्चासि विश्वस्य मध्ये तु सर्वमाव्ययम्।
   त्वमादिदेवो विदितस्त्वंस्वयं पुरुषोत्तमः॥

Translation:
5. You are the infinite one, encompassing everything in the universe,
   You are the original deity, known as the supreme person.

६. स्तोमसि यज्ञेश विदुषां वरिष्ठः।
   नैनं दानेन मर्हाति वर्यं स्तोमम्॥

Translation:
6. You are worthy of praise and worship by the experts in sacrificial rituals,
   Not by mere material offerings, the best form of worship.

७. अश्रद्दधानाः पुरुषा धर्मस्यास्य परंतप।
   अपन्नाः सम्पदां देवीमरोगां चेतसा गृहाम्॥

Translation:
7. Those who lack faith in righteousness, O scorcher of enemies,
   Deprived of wealth, prosperity, and afflicted by illness in their hearts.

८. इष्टापूर्तं न चेन्न तु दुष्प्रापं तत्किमुत्र च।
   मानुष्यलोके सदा अधिकं वा यदि वा न जायते॥

Translation:
8. The fulfillment of desires is not difficult to attain,
   Both in this human world and beyond, if one is not born with abundant fortune.

९. सर्वदा सन्निहितोऽस्माकं तत्र त्वं प्रेष्यसि शास्त्रविदां वरः।
   येन त्वामाप्ययन्ति देवा मरुतः सर्वमरुतामसमूहम्॥

Translation:
9. You are always present with us, the best among those who know the scriptures,
   Through whom even the celestial gods, including the chief deities, the Maruts, approach you.

१०. अदृष्टपूर्वं सर्वे हि एते त्वया वद्ध रथस्थह।
   युद्धे चाप्यवने चैव त्रैलोक्यं संग्रमं जगत्॥

Translation:
10. All these warriors, who were previously defeated by you, are now stationed on your chariot,
    Both in the battlefield and in the forest, creating a global conflict.

११. एतन्मुक्त्वा सलक्ष्मणं वाक्यं अगस्त्यो महामुनिः।
   जगाम च यथागतं ससीतामधिगम्य च॥

Translation:
11. Having spoken these words to Lakshmana, the great sage Agastya,
    Departed to his original abode, after seeing Sita.

१२. एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजा नष्टशोको भवादृशः।
   दारादेव प्रमुमोच यः शोकात्स्मृतिम

12. एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजा नष्टशोको भवादृशः।
   दारादेव प्रमुमोच यः शोकात्स्मृतिमागतः॥

Translation:
12. Hearing these words, O mighty-armed one, your sorrow will be dispelled,
    Like one who has lost his wife and regains his memory.

१३. ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम्।
   रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम्॥

Translation:
13. After the tiredness of the battle, standing with a contemplative mind,
    Beholding Ravana in front, ready for the battle.

१४. अभवद्रवणः शीघ्रं रामदर्शनसंप्लुतः।
   अञ्जनेयपरिष्वज्य संरब्धम्॥

Translation:
14. Ravana was quickly overcome by the sight of Rama,
    And embraced by Hanuman, filled with joy.

१५. उत्तरं रामसंस्थानं पूजयाधिपतिं तदा।
   आर्तयाम्यचिराद्रावणं चाग्रतोऽवस्थितम्॥

Translation:
15. Then, Ravana, stationed in front, worshipped Lord Rama's presence,
    Bowing with reverence, seeking immediate relief from distress.

१५. उत्तरं रामसंस्थानं पूजयाधिपतिं तदा।
   आर्तयाम्यचिराद्रावणं चाग्रतोऽवस्थितम्॥

Translation:
15. Uttaraṁ Rāmasaṁsthānaṁ pūjayādhipatiṁ tadā।
   Ārtayāmyacirādrāvaṇaṁ cāgrato'vasthitam॥

English Translation:
15. Then, Ravana, stationed in front, worshipped Lord Rama's presence,
   Bowing with reverence, seeking immediate relief from distress.

१६. अदित्यहृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम्।
   जयावहं जपेन्नित्यं अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम्॥

Translation:
16. Adityahṛdayaṁ puṇyaṁ sarvaśatrūvināśanam।
   Jayāvahaṁ japennityaṁ akṣayyaṁ paramaṁ śivam॥

English Translation:
16. The Aditya Hrudayam is sacred, destroying all enemies,
   Chanting it daily brings eternal victory and supreme auspiciousness.

१७. सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्।
   चिन्ता शोक प्रशमनं आयुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्॥

Translation:
17. Sarva maṅgala māṅgalyaṁ sarva pāpa praṇāśanam।
   Cintā śoka praśamanaṁ āyur vardhanamuttamam॥

English Translation:
17. It is the most auspicious of all auspiciousness,
   Destroying all sins, relieving worries and sorrows,
   Increasing life span and bestowing supreme blessings.

१८. रश्मिमन्तं समुद्यन्तं देवसुर नमस्कृतम्।
   पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम्॥

Translation:
18. Raśmimantaṁ samudyantaṁ devasura namaskṛtam।
   Pūjayasva vivasvantam bhaskaraṁ bhuvaneśvaram॥

English Translation:
18. Salutations to the Sun, the radiant one, who rises,
   Worshipped by gods and demons alike,
   Pay homage to the lord of the worlds, the divine illuminator.

१९. सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येष तेजस्वि रश्मि भवनः।
   एष देवासुर गण लोचन लोकत्रयाश्रयः॥

Translation:
19. Sarva devātmako hyeṣa tejasi raśmi bhavanaḥ।
   Eṣa devāsura gaṇa locana lokatrayāśrayaḥ॥

English Translation:
19. He is the essence of all deities, the radiant and luminous one,
   The one with eyes that oversee gods and demons,
   The refuge of all the three worlds.

२०. यस्त्वष्टौ चैक मासेन स्तुवन् नमस्तु भैरव।
   पूरफ् प्रदुर्भुतो ह्येष सवितस च तेजसः॥

Translation:
20. Yastvaṣṭau caika māsena stuvaṁ namastu bhairava।
   Puraf pradurbhuto hyeṣa savitasa cha tejasaḥ॥

English Translation:
20. Those who praise and bow down to Him with devotion for eight months,
   This resplendent form of the Sun God becomes manifest,
   Endowed with the brilliance of Lord Savita.

२१. व्यस्वन्नः स्मरतस्थ्वन्मि तद्ग्रहण समुद्भवम्।
   सर्वादेविनमस्कृत्य ग्रहणं भवये ततः॥

Translation:
21. Vyasvannaḥ smaratasthvanmi tadgrahaṇa samudbhavam।
   Sarvādevinamaskṛtya grahaṇaṁ bhavaye tataḥ॥

English Translation:
21. Remembering Vyasvan, I contemplate upon his descendant,
   Who is born from his consort, saluting all the deities,
   I invoke the blessings of the Sun God.

२२. एष मे सर्वदेवानां ध्यानकामः प्रदीयताम्।
   अशेष तेजसः सम्भूतो रस्मि भानुः समुद्भवः॥

Translation:
22. Eṣa me sarvadevānāṁ dhyānakāmaḥ pradīyatām।
   Aśeṣa tejasaḥ sambhūto rasmi bhānuḥ samudbhava

English Translation:
22. May this desire for meditation on the Sun God be granted to me,
   Who is the source of all brilliance, the radiant and illuminating one.

२३. ओं नमः समर्थ रमानन्दाय।

Translation:
23. Om namah samartha ramānandāya।

English Translation:
23. Salutations to the mighty delight of Goddess Rama.

२४. राम राम महाबाहो श्रीरामानन्दाय नमः।

Translation:
24. Rāma rāma mahābāho śrīrāmānandāya namah।

English Translation:
24. O mighty-armed Rama, salutations to the embodiment of divine joy.

२५. अगस्त्य उवाच।
   आदित्य हृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम्।
   जयावहं जपेन्नित्यं अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम्॥

Translation:
25. Agastya uvācha।
   Āditya hṛdayaṁ puṇyaṁ sarvaśatrūvināśanam।
   Jayāvahaṁ japennityaṁ akṣayyaṁ paramaṁ śivam॥

English Translation:
25. Sage Agastya said:
   The Aditya Hrudayam is sacred, destroying all enemies,
