From dust and gas our Moon was born,
A ball of molten rock and stone,
It cooled and hardened in the night,
A barren world without a light.
The Earth's gravity pulled it close,
It orbited round our planet's rose,
It helped to stabilize our days,
And tides that rise and fall and raise.
Its light reflected on the night,
A beacon in the darkness bright,
It guided sailors on their way,
And helped to sow the seeds of day.
It helped to form our seasons four,
The length of day and night and hour,
It helped to create our oceans deep,
And life that thrives on land and sea.
We humans have explored its face,
We've walked upon its dusty space,
We've brought back samples of its soil,
And learned much of its ancient toil.
We've mined its minerals for our gain,
We've used its water to sustain,
We've studied its craters and its seas,
And learned much of its ancient history.
The Moon is a mysterious place,
With much still to be learned of its face,
But it is a part of our world,
And we are grateful for its light and twirl.
The Moon
The Moon, a pale and silent orb,
That hangs in Earth's dark sky,
A distant world, yet one that's strong,
And has a powerful hold on me.
Its origins are shrouded in mystery,
But some believe it formed from debris
That was left over after a collision
Between Earth and another large body.
The Moon's gravity helps to stabilize Earth's
Tilt on its axis, which is what
Causes our seasons to change.
The Moon also affects the tides,
Pulling on the oceans with its gravity.
The Moon is a source of minerals,
And some scientists believe there may be
Water ice on its surface.
Humans have been fascinated by the Moon
For centuries, and we have sent many
Missions to explore it.
We have walked on its surface,
And we have even landed a rover
On its far side.
The Moon is a mysterious and
Enchanting place, and it continues
To hold our interest.
Who knows what secrets it may hold?
What wonders await us there?
The Moon is a reminder of our
Place in the universe, and of
The vastness of space.
It is a source of beauty and
Inspiration, and it will continue
To be a source of wonder for
Generations to come.
Oh, Moon, thou silver orb so bright,
Thou who dost rule the night,
Thy beauty is a sight to see,
A sight that fills me with glee.
From whence didst thou come, fair moon?
Didst thou from God's own hand descend?
Or didst thou form from dust and stone,
In some far-off distant end?
Whatever thy origins may be,
Thou art a wondrous sight,
And I am grateful for thy light,
Which helps to guide me through the night.
Thou hast a powerful influence
On Earth and all its creatures,
For thou dost control the tides,
And thou dost help to form the seasons.
In the winter, thy cold light
Helps to keep the Earth warm,
And in the summer, thy light
Helps to keep the Earth cool.
Thou art a source of life for plants,
For they need thy light to grow,
And thou art a source of beauty
For all who gaze upon thee.
Humans have long been fascinated by thee,
And they have tried to reach for thee,
But thou art always just out of reach,
A mystery that they cannot solve.
But still, they continue to try,
And who knows, one day they may succeed,
And they may finally reach thee,
And learn all of thy secrets.
